the best is yet to come

been sitting here for a good 5 minutes trying to decide what to title this post. I'm trying to be optimistic about spring break ending but it's hard to be. where did the week go? and spring breaks don't have the "fun" factor they did back in the day. I am in bed so I guess that's a step in the right direction of accepting the fact I have to go back to reality at the crack of dawn tomorrow. literally.

I guess I called this the best is yet to come because it is fitting for how I'm feeling right now. I feel the time after spring break is the home stretch until summer. and that means fun times + marrying my best friend. and then hopefully finding a new career path for myself and giving my life more meaning and happiness. I want my life to be about the moments in it and not always be stressed, so I am looking forward to what's to come and that entails finishing this school year with my favorite class in my 5 years of teaching.

this post will be short and sweet because I DO need to get some sleep. I will do another house update post this week at some point.

weekend in pictures:

yesterday we found a new park, ran with Chili, I wrote bridal shower thank you notes on the roof, bought groceries for the first time in two weeks and went to a friend's birthday dinner at PF Changs. today I slept in (I will miss that. so so much.), made 2 lattes with a wedding shower gift, got out my summer clothes, put away winter clothes, ran 2.5 miles with Chili, did a ton of laundry, chilled on the roof, and we made a delicious dinner (spent time making kebabs, then the propane ran out as is our luck, so we had to stir fry them - still tasty!)

guess it's time to wrap it up. goodnight spring break! we'll miss you!

yay did it!

this is a cute saying my youngest niece says (I think it's from Dora??) and we like to say it to celebrate things we have done - I am posting twice in the same week! back to blogging, so far so good!

currently I am watching DIY network and drinking wine alone as Josh's "1 hour power nap" has turned into over 2 hours...can't decide if I should wake him. maybe after this post. he's really cool on a Friday night. picked a winner ;)

first, life the past few days...

yes, this spring break has included a lot of alcoholic beverages and I'm okay with it. we had an awesome lunch date by the lake with a margarita bigger than my head. then went to my mom's for dinner to say bye to my brother's family. played an impromptu basketball game with my siblings. younger sister and brother beat myself and older sister but it was fun and something we've never done! today went to brunch + mimosas with my 3 favorite coworkers. snuggled with my puppy. then Josh and I laid on the roof in the sun and made plans to turn the top of our pergola into a deck hang out. spring break is coming to an end and I'm sad, but I just have to enjoy the weekend and try not to think about going back to reality.

house things!

tonight I want to share something I did to the fireplace almost a year ago this past summer.
white washed the fire place! "yay did it!"

I love the thought of a fireplace but ours was always so dingy and I felt made our living room feel even darker. so I decided white washing it was the best option. I found some step by step instructions on pinterest and away I went!

I made a mixture and started painting and blotting as it said to do. this was what it originally looked like. I continued to put on more coats because I wanted it even lighter and the brick was soaking up the paint quickly.
this was a comparison picture I sent to Josh while working - comparing the lighter white wash to making it darker white and putting more paint in the mixture. we both agreed we wanted more white.
this was the first coat look. it definitely brightened it up, but we agreed that another coat would look even better.
finished bottom compared with the top. this really helped me finish because I loved the look!

all in all, it took me the entire day and Josh even helped some when he got home that day. It was a tedious process, but was not difficult and a bit therapeutic compared to painting rooms, I loved painting the brick. it turned out great and we've gotten lots of compliments. white washing brick is an easy project to lighten up any room!

guess I should try to go wake Joshua as he's been asleep for 2.5 hours and I don't think he wants to sleep the night away...

Chili girl spent an afternoon outside and is pretty pooped too - happy friday night party people

back, back again.

I'm currently on spring break (hallelujah) and realized today that I don't do things I love much anymore. I really loved to blog and I love to look back on the past and see where I was a year ago compared to now, what I was thinking and feeling...just everything. So tonight I am going to change that and vow to make time for blogging, because I really do love it.

Last time I wrote I had a resolution to blog again. I guess it's never too late to start resolutions!

2015 so far...

that's what's happening in wedding world. I plan on getting a few things done tomorrow for it and making a big to-do list of things that must get done very soon. planning a wedding is no joke!

today things!
I would like to keep going with this blog and try to write daily-ish as well as do planned posts about the wedding and the house (yes we still have a house with many ongoing projects!). my brother's family is in town for spring break and last night I had my two oldest nieces spend the night.

'
they were playing school and had lunch from the "cafeteria" in the" teacher's lounge"...
I love the imagination!

this post is way too long and I'm way tired. we just turned the AC on for the first time this year but it's still very warm in here, hope I can fall asleep! I plan on another post tomorrow about house things.

happy spring break, happy Chili!
